Tharptown boys, girls get wins over Hackleburg, Falkville

Gracie Montgomery made two key three-pointers and free throws to help the Tharptown Wildcats close out the regular season with A 58-53 win over the Hackleburg Panthers.

Tharptown led Hackleburg 13-9 at the end of the first quarter, but the Panthers cut the Wildcat lead to 25-22 by halftime.

Montgomery scoped 24 points, including 12 in the critical fourth quarter, to help seal the win for Tharptown.

Aly Vandiver followed with 12 points on three three-pointers. Brooke Daily finished with nine points, Shaylee Wieting five points, Jaiden Gaston three points, Caitlyn Simmons two points, Sarah Mansell two points and Adrianna Borden one point.

Tharptown 63, Falkville 39

Tharptown had no trouble toppling Falkville last week, winning 63-39.

Tharptown led 19-6 at the end of the first quarter and 35-17 en route to the easy win.

Montgomery led the Wildcats with 11 points. Wieting and Gaston followed with 10 points each. Wieting had five steals, and Gaston had two blocks and four steals.

Daily had nine points and eight rebounds. Borden finished with six points, Autumn Montgomery five points, Simmons five points, Mansell four points and Vandiver three points.

BOYS

Winston Nolen had a solid week, leading the Tharptown Wildcats to two wins to close out the regular season.

Nolen scored 28 points to help Tharptown beat Falkville 74-69. Nolen went nine for 16 from the field with three three-pointers, and he had 11 rebounds, six steals and three assists.

Falkville led 14-13 at the end of the first quarter, but Tharptown pulled ahead 30-26 at halftime.

Falkville cut the Wildcats’ lead to 49-47 at the end of the third quarter and held on in the fourth.

Colton Simmons added 20 points. Edwin Garcia followed with 13 points. Edward Lopez added seven points, Luis Valdez three points and Yovani Gomez three points.

Tharptown 65, Hackleburg 41

The Tharptown Wildcats jumped out to a quick early lead and cruised to an easy 65-41 win over Hackleburg.

Tharptown led 15-2 at the end of the first quarter and 30-11 at halftime en route to the easy win.

Nolen led Tharptown with 23 points. Simmons and Valdez added 11 points and 10 points respectively. Lopez had six points, Garcia four points, Tyler Amos three points, Hayden Moss two points and Gomez two points.
