Franklin County prepares for bad weather Saturday

Although towns in the South are no stranger to severe weather, it is still just as important to be weather aware. This weekend, severe storms are anticipated to visit the Franklin County area and numerous other parts of the Southeast.

Franklin County EMA Director Mary Glass said storms are predicted to be in Franklin County between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday, but this could change as time progresses.

“Just be safe,” Glass said. “Everyone needs to be sure they are monitoring the weather.”

Glass said it is important for people to have numerous ways to listen for weather alerts. She said she recommends everyone have their phones charged, candles and flashlights prepared and be ready in case of severe weather.

It is also important for people to have a designated safe place to go in case of severe weather. This includes a lower lever interior room away from windows. All Franklin County storm shelters will also be open tomorrow.

Glass said there is a chance of tornadoes, with winds being predicted to be up to 70 miles per hour.

“Some people assume that if there isn’t a tornado, they are fine,” Glass said. “But even if a tornado doesn’t come, storms and winds of 70 miles per hour can be just as bad.”
