Phil Campbell’s Trey Leindecker runs wild for career night against Phillips

Despite having as many as 17 players sidelined because of suspensions – including many playmakers – the Phil Campbell Bobcats dominated their homecoming opponent Phillips 29-0.

Many players had to play out of their normal positions, including wideout Ben Williams, who played quarterback much of the night. Williams’ job was to either run the ball or give it to someone else to run.

The Bobcats didn’t attempt a single pass the entire game.

The running back who did the most damage didn’t change. Trey Leindecker, who has been the Bobcats’ primary playmaker all year, had a career night, carrying the ball 16 times for 327 yards and three touchdowns – this despite the fact Phillips knew he was getting the ball.

Williams carried the ball 17 times for 85 yards and a touchdown.

Phil Campbell amassed 429 total yards – all on the ground – while holding Phillips to 119 total yards.

Leindecker scored his first of three touchdowns with 2:09 to go in the first quarter on an 86-yard run. The point after attempt by Abraham Gonzalez was no good, giving the Bobcats a 6-0 lead.

Williams scored on a short three-yard run with 8:26 to go in the second quarter.  Leindecker added the two-point conversion to give Phil Campbell a 14-0 lead.

Leindecker scored again with 13 seconds to go in the first half on a 13-yard run.  Williams completed a two-point conversion pass to Blaine Goodson to give the Bobcats a 22-0 lead at halftime.

Leindecker added another long scoring play in the third quarter. This one went for 82 yards. The Gonzalez kick was good, giving Phil Campbell a 29-0 lead.

Phil Campbell goes on the road this week to play region opponent Westminster Christian.
