RHS baseball picks up two wins, two losses
Bob Jones 12, Russellville 2
The Golden Tigers traveled to Madison March 12 to take on the 7A Patriots and fell in six innings.
RHS was outhit in the game by a 10-3 total. Cole Barnett, Hunter Briles and Gordon White all had hits for Russellville. Barnett and Briles had doubles, while Jackson Lindsey walked twice and Barnett walked once.
Rowe Gallagher got the start on the mound and was followed by Caden Parker, Devin Buckhalter and White.
Florence 7, Russellville 0
Florence came to Russellville Friday for a makeup game after a rainout and took the contest with solid pitching and hitting.
The Falcons scored a run in the first inning and added two in the fifth and four in the sixth. RHS managed two hits and three walks in the game, while Florence had 11 hits off of Russellville pitching.
Gallagher got the start for the Golden Tigers, and he was followed by Tanner James and Nate Green on the mound.
Russellville 10, Scottsboro 0
Russellville scored five runs in the first inning and five more in the fourth to get the shutout win over Scottsboro in the first of two home games for RHS March 16.
The Golden Tigers outhit Scottsboro by a 9-4 tally. Buckhalter, Lindsey, Briles and White had two hits each. Buckhalter, Lindsey and White all hit their first home runs, and Cole Barnett had a double.
White led Russellville in RBIs with four, while Lindsey drove in two. RHS was also active on the bases, with seven steals in the game.
Parker was the starting pitcher, and he got the win. He worked four innings and allowed four hits and no runs. The senior right-hander struck out four batters and walked none. J
ohn David Bishop pitched the game’s final inning, and he struck out a batter.
Russellville 6, Westbrook Christian 2
The Golden Tigers got their second win of the day by taking down the Warriors. It was the second trip to RHS this season for Westbrook, and Russellville has defeated WCS twice this year on the diamond.
Russellville (3-9) outhit the Warriors 9-7. Barnett and Lindsey had two hits each, while Buckhalter, Parker, White, Gallagher and Casen Heaps all had one hit apiece.
Buckhalter had a double, while Briles and Nathan Brockway both reached base on a walk. Gallagher led Russellville with two RBIs while Barnett, Buckhalter and Lindsey had one each.
White pitched six innings, striking out five batters and walking two. The righty allowed two runs on six hits and threw 92 pitches.
Buckhalter came on to pitch the game’s final inning. He struck out a batter and allowed a hit.
“I was really proud of several guys today,” Russellville head coach Chris Heaps said after the two wins Saturday.
Next up for the Golden Tigers will be a key area matchup against Hamilton.
