RCS’ Judy Pounders receives AASB honor

This month the Alabama Association of School Boards held its 2018 convention, and the Russellville City Schools system was well represented.
RCS Board of Education member Judy Pounders was honored by the association as an All-State School Board Member.
Superintendent Heath Grimes described Pounders as “loving, caring, involved, intense,
passionate and a woman of faith.”
“She loves Russellville City Schools and education. She has a passion for excellence,” Grimes said.
Pounders is a retired educator from RCS, where she was an English teacher and a counselor. She has been on the board of education since 2009.
Franklin County Probate Judge Barry Moore was an English student of Pounders’.
“She is a very dedicated, hard-working person. She looks for the good in education and in students, too,” Moore said.
Pounders’ background as a teacher helps inform her decisions as a board member, according to Grimes and Moore, because she can see each issue from both points of view.
“I transfer the same lessons I learned in life, from marriage and teaching and rearing children, that you just keep on plugging,” Pounders said.
She said she believes “students, children and teenagers, are our greatest resource.”
According to the AASB, being recognized as an All-State School Board Member is the highest honor that is awarded to board members.
