Club Chronicles: Christmastime comes for downtown Russellville

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in downtown Russellville.

Cultura Garden Club members have been working like elves getting the decorations ready to hang. For over five weeks each wreath and garland has been reworked with new lights and colorful balls. Shannon Wilson and the Russellville Street Department have graciously been assisting the Cultura Garden Club members in their quest to make Russellville beautiful for the holiday season. With the leadership of the club president, Hillary Malone Hall, the project is about to become a reality.

Sincere thanks to the community, Franklin County Chamber of Commerce, volunteers from Book Lovers Study Club, mayor and council for their support.

The club held its November meeting at the Calvary Baptist Church with Michelle Sibley and Sherry James serving as co-hostesses. The Institute was given by Barbara Sage. Supplemental material was given on how sunny days and cool nights bring out the best color in leaves. Members donated new toys for the local Toys for Tots Christmas project. Members also signed up as volunteer ushers for “The Roxy’s Legend of Toyland” that is scheduled for Nov. 28 through Dec. 2.

Final plans for the Every Light a Prayer for Peace were discussed. The program was presented to members for their approval.

This event is scheduled for Dec. 6 at the Franklin County Courthouse from 4:30-5 p.m.  Guest speaker will be Jim Poss, pastor at Branches Church. Entertainment will be presented by the RHS and RMS choruses and drama students, and the JROTC will present the colors.

The public is invited to attend.

Prior to this ceremony, a reception for veterans will be held in the Courthouse conference room from 3:30-4:15 p.m. The reception is co-sponsored by the Cultura Garden Club and Book Lovers Study Club.

The Russellville Christmas Parade will follow this ceremony at 6 p.m.
