Belgreen girls open with win over Haleyville
The Belgreen Bulldogs varsity girls team opened the season with a 56-45 win over the Haleyville Lions in the Red Bay Tipoff Invitational.
Gracie Dempsey hit three three-pointers to help the Bulldogs to a big 21-13 first quarter lead over the Lions. Belgreen extended the lead to 39-24 at halftime.
Although Haleyville outscored the Bulldogs 13-6 in the third quarter to pull to within eight, 45-37, Gabbie Moore scored nine points in the fourth quarter to help Belgreen pull away for the win.
Moore led the Bulldogs with 20 points. Dempsey followed with 12 points, and Autumn Bragwell tallied 10 points. Ansley Tate and Emma Dempsey finished the game with five points each. Katie Dempsey scored three points, and Megan Smith contributed a point.
