Library shares resources in November

Aug. 3, 1990, President George H. W. Bush declared the month of November as Native American Heritage Month. This commemorative month aims to provide a platform for Native people in the United States of America to share their culture.

In celebration of Native American Heritage month, the Oka Kapassa organization that hosts the annual Native American Festival in Tuscumbia every year has generously provided the library with an educational display. Learn the different tribal names and their origins, as well as how to say hello in native language, by stopping by the library and checking it out.

The library also has numerous books on Native Americans, including books about Native American heroes and teachings, illustrated history, rituals and celebrations, sacred ecology, folktales, plays and bead working.

It’s also not too late to grab your recipe books for Thanksgiving. We’re all familiar with the turkey and dressing, but what about those of you on the low carb/keto diet? The library has cookbooks of all kinds, including those for specific diets. Of course, we also have a massive supply of more conventional cookbooks, if you’re interested in something traditional for the holidays.

If cooking isn’t your thing, and you’re more excited about relaxing on your days off from work, we’ve got you covered! The library has been working to get ready new titles for your enjoyment, including books from favorite authors.

We will be open Tuesday and Wednesday of Thanksgiving week, so stop by and see us!
