Russellville Reads: Choose a great read for relaxation
Whether it was “Wuthering Heights” over winter holidays or
the Sookie Stackhouse series over the course of the hot
summer, choosing the right book has always been imperative
for a relaxing break from reality. So, with Thanksgiving break
approaching, we have started scanning our shelves to see
which books deserve a revisit this season.
For those of you who haven’t settled on a book selection quite
yet, we’d like to offer some suggestions – a few options to
consider as you pack for the holidays. Whether you’re looking
to enjoy the family, food and fun or escape at a moment’s
notice, we’ve got you covered.
“Freedom,” by Jonathan Franzen
Sometimes you just want to immerse yourself in drama not of
your own making. Franzen’s journey through time and space
to true understanding will keep you engaged throughout the
holiday – as long as you don’t mind shedding a few tears
along the way.
“War and Peace,” by Leo Tolstoy
Some might consider this a pretentious choice, but if you can
get past the staggering cast of characters and the
confounding chronology, you’ll find a family narrative worthy
of even the most tragic Thanksgiving feasts.
“Rebecca,” by Daphne De Maurier
There is nothing like curling up by the fire with a romantic tale
of passion, mystery and intrigue on a dark and starless night.
This romantic classic offers a little comfort food for the book
lover’s soul.
“The Shining,” by Stephen King
King is a master of suspense, and this book will leave you on
the edge of your seat. So if you’re looking to lose yourself in a
work of fiction this holiday break, then look no further than
Stephen King.
“The Goldfinch,” by Donna Tartt
A young boy’s journey brings new meaning to family drama
and far-flung mystery. Treat yourself to this beautiful tale of
love, loss, grief and hope.
