Russellville Reads: RPL announces upcoming library events

The library had the privilege to host retired educator and local author Dianne Pace as part of our third Thursday adult programming series last week. She had everyone in attendance moved beyond words when reading and discussing her newly-published book “I Love You, a Bushel and a Peck.” The library would like to thank all those in attendance and especially Dianne for sharing your experiences with us.

We were so excited to have Lynn Winter from Haleyville in the library Tuesday to help us premiere our non-traditional item collection. Lynn taught a cake decorating class using one of the cake pans available for checkout at the library. Thanks to everyone who registered for the class.

Taylor Reeder from the Alabama Cooperative Extension Office will be teaching a three-week fall gardening series next month. Classes start Oct. 17 at 10:30 a.m.

Oct. 6 the library is celebrating Hispanic Heritage month with displays provided by the Franklin County Extension office, games, guest speakers and traditional samplings.

Zombies are coming back to downtown Russellville this year for the library’s 6th Annual Zombie Walk. Join us Oct. 20 for some Halloween fun! We have a professional makeup team to get you zombie ready. We will be hosting various activities throughout the day to make the wait more enjoyable. Parade starts at the intersection of Lawrence and Jackson at 6 p.m., so even if acting like a zombie isn’t your thing, feel free to come on out and watch the frightful fun.

The library is currently accepting volunteer applications. If you have community service hours to fulfill for National Honor Society or Junior Leadership or even if you just like to help out, we would love to hear from you.
