Junior high basketball tips off

Junior high basketball will be tipping off this week as two traditional season-opening tournaments begin at Tharptown and Red Bay.

The longest running junior tipoff tournament in the area will start Oct. 28 at Tharptown. Games will be held in both the high school and elementary school gymnasiums. The tournament will continue Oct. 30 and conclude Nov. 2. The format will be normal tournament play with winners advancing through the brackets.

There will be four divisions: seventh/eighth grade girls, seventh/eighth grade boys, ninth grade girls and ninth grade boys.

Tharptown, Vina, Russellville, Phil Campbell and Covenant Christian will play in the seventh/eighth grade girls division.

Tharptown, East Franklin, Covenant Christian, Russellville, Belgreen and Phil Campbell will play in the seveth/eighth grade boys division.

East Franklin, Phil Campbell, Belgreen, Tharptown and Russellville will play in the ninth grade girls division. Tharptown, East Franklin, Phil Campbell and Russellville will play in the ninth grade boys division.

The Red Bay junior high tipoff tournament will begin Oct. 30, continue Oct. 31 and conclude Nov. 4. Red Bay follows a round-robin format with each team guaranteed three games.

Divisions will include seventh grade boys – Winfield, Brooks, Deshler, Phil Campbell and Haleyville; eighth grade girls Red Bay, Haleyville, Phil Campbell, Hamilton, Deshler and Shoals; and eighth grade boys – Red Bay, Winfield, Deshler, Belgreen, Brooks, Phil Campbell and Haleyville.
