FCSO arrests second suspect in shooting

After a shooting on McCarley Road in Phil Campbell in early February, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office has charged an additional suspect with attempt to commit murder.

Tajah Brown, 28, of Russellville, was allegedly in the vehicle with John James (JJ) Common, 33, and participated in the Feb. 7 Phil Campbell shooting. Like Common, Brown is charged with discharge of a firearm into an occupied building along with the attempted murder charge.

Authorities reported that Common was identified from the security footage and later arrested and charged during a traffic stop on Filmore Street in Russellville. Brown was picked up March 3 at Ridgecrest apartments following witness identification and investigative work, according to Sheriff Shannon Oliver.

The FCSO is still seeking a third suspect, who will also be charged with attempted murder and discharging a weapon into an occupied building.

According to the FCSO, neither occupant of the home on McCarley Road was injured in the shooting. Thirteen or 14 rounds were fired according to the authorities, one of which passed within just a few feet of one of the occupants, who returned fire and struck the vehicle of Common, Brown and the other suspect.

Brown remains in the Franklin County Jail.
