Phil Campbell 85, Belgreen 80

The Phil Campbell Bobcats had three players score 20-plus points, and the Belgreen Bulldogs had four players in double figures, in a high scoring affair between the two county rivals Friday night. The Bobcats, going 26-for-36 from the free throw line, held off the Bulldogs in the fourth quarter to get the 85-80 win.

Belgreen led Phil Campbell 21-19 at the end of the first quarter. Phil Campbell edged one point closer by halftime, trailing the Bulldogs 39-38. The Bobcats had a big third quarter, outscoring the Bulldogs 26-17 to take a 64-56 lead into the final period of play. Belgreen outscored Phil Campbell 24-21 in the fourth quarter, but it wasn’t enough to catch the Bobcats.

Rhett Benford and Peyton Thomas scored 24 points each, and Thomas Baker added 20 points in the win for the Bobcats. Hayden Copeland finished with seven points, Jacob Anthony with six points and Brody Nix with four points.

Mason Bragwell led Belgreen with 18 points. Jacob Montgomery finished with 13 points. Brant Bragwell and Eli Hiser pitched in 12 points each. Grayson Moore and Seth Taylor scored six points each. Adam Green, Joseph Welch and Payton Scott had three points each.

Tharptown 70, Cherokee 52

After a low scoring first quarter, the Tharptown Wildcats scored 20 or more points in each of the three remaining periods to defeat the Cherokee Indians 70-52.

Cherokee led Tharptown 12-6 at the end of the first quarter. Tharptown outscored Cherokee 22-16 to tie the game at 28-28 at halftime. Tharptown outpaced Cherokee 22-17 in the third quarter to hold a 50-45 advantage going into the final quarter. In the fourth quarter Tharptown blew past Cherokee 20-7 to get the big area win.

Tharptown had three players in double figures. Mikey Rosson led the Wildcats with 19 points, Levi McCormack followed with 17 points, and Braden Key knocked down 14 points. Matt Hall (6), Carson Petree (5), Alex Argueta (5), T.J. McDonald (2) and Misael Saldana (2) also scored for THS.

Belgreen 77, Hackleburg 39

After a close first half, the Belgreen Bulldogs exploded for 49 points in the second half to roll past the Hackleburg Panthers for a big area win, 77-39.

Hackleburg jumped out to a 16-11 first quarter lead. Belgreen outscored Hackleburg 11-9 in the second quarter to close the Panther lead to 25-22 at halftime. Belgreen blew past Hackleburg in the third quarter, outscoring the Panthers 26-16 to take a 54-48 lead into the final quarter. The Bulldogs kept rolling in the fourth quarter, outpacing Hackleburg 23-11 en route to the win.

Brant Bragwell led the Bulldogs with 21 points. Mason Bragwell followed him with 16 points. Joseph Welch and Adam Green scored seven points each. Eli Hiser (6), Payton Scott (6), Shane Devaney (5), Jacob Mayberry (4), Seth Taylor (3) and Patrick Sykes (2) also scored for Belgreen.

Tharptown 70, Hackleburg 64

The Tharptown Wildcats had four players in double figures Friday night as they were able to hold off a three-point barrage by the Hackleburg Panthers and get the big area win, 70-64.

Hackleburg led Tharptown 18-12 at the end of the first quarter. Both teams played even in the second quarter, scoring 19 points each to make the halftime score 37-31 Hackleburg.

Tharptown gained the upper hand they would need in the third quarter, outscoring Hackleburg 20-9 to take a 51-46 into fourth quarter. The Wildcats would outscore the Panthers 19-18 in the fourth quarter to get the win.

Cole Daniel and Mikey Rosson led Tharptown with 16 points each. Levi McCormack added 13 points, and Carson Petree finished with ten points. Matt Hall had seven points, Alex Argueta had four points and Misael Saldana and Braden Key had two points each.

Central-Florence 48, Red Bay 42

The Red Bay Tigers led Central-Florence by four points at halftime but could not hold on for the win, losing 48-42.

Red Bay and Central battled to a 15-15 tie at the end of the first quarter. Red Bay took the lead by outscoring Central 10-6 in the second quarter to get 25-21 advantage at halftime. Central tied the game 33-33 by the end of the third quarter and pulled away in the fourth quarter, outscoring Red Bay 15-9.

Colton Corum led Red Bay with 19 points. Gath Weatherford followed with 12 points. Peyton Green had six points, Hunter Bays had three points, and Noah Brewer finished with two points.

Hamilton 70, Phil Campbell 39

The Phil Campbell Bobcats struggled to score points in a 70-39 lost to Hamilton last week. Hamilton outscored the Phil Campbell 50-18 in the second and third quarters of play en route to the win.

Hamilton led Phil Campbell 15-13 at the end of the first quarter and 40-26 at halftime. Hamilton extended their lead to 65-31 by the end of the third quarter.

Hayden Copeland and Thomas Baker scored 11 points each for the Bobcats. Brody Nix had six points, Peyton Thomas and Jacob Anthony had four points each, Rhett Benford had two points, and Gage Roberson finished with one point.

Belmont (Miss.) 61, Red Bay 36

The Belmont Cardinals used a strong third quarter to blow past the Red Bay Tigers 61-36.

Belmont led Red Bay 10-7 at the end of the first quarter and extended their lead to 25-15 by halftime. Belmont put the game out of reach in the third quarter, outscoring Red Bay 20-5 to extend their lead to 45-19.

Gath Weatherford led Red Bay with 20 points. Colton Corum and Peyton Green scored six points each. Noah Brewer and Ethan Pierce added two points each.

Haleyville 65, Phil Campbell 50

The Haleyville Lions had too much firepower for the Phil Campbell Bobcats to overcome last week, falling to their 4A foes 65-50.

Haleyville led Phil Campbell 13-10 at the end of the first quarter and led 32-22 at halftime. Haleyville retained their ten-point lead at the end of the third quarter 47-37 and extended it in the fourth quarter, outscoring Phil Campbell 18-13.

Peyton Thomas led Phil Campbell with 15 points. Rhett Benford (9), Thomas Baker (8), Gage Roberson (7), Hayden Copeland (3), Brody Nix (3) and Jacob Anthony (3) also scored for Phil Campbell.

Ponotoc (Miss.) 56, Red Bay 24

Ponotoc, Miss., led the Red Bay Tigers 34-12 at halftime and cruised to an easy win 56-24.

Colton Corum led Red Bay with 13 points. Gath Weatherford had five points, Aaron Moore had three points, Dylan Pearson had two points and Peyton Green one point.
