Belgreen splits games with Vina for Homecoming

Girls
Red Bay 63, Phil Campbell 58
The Phil Campbell Bobcats led the Red Bay Tigers by as much as ten points in the second half, but the Red Bay Tigers stormed back to take the win over their cross-county rival 63-58 Friday night.
Red Bay jumped out to a 21-14 first quarter lead over Phil Campbell. The Bobcats outscored the Tigers 19-10 to take a 33-31 lead into the locker room at halftime. Phil Campbell led Red Bay 52-50 going into the fourth quarter, but the Tigers outscored the Bobcats 13-6 in the final stanza to get the win.
Red Bay had four players in double figures, with Allie Kennedy leading the way with 15 points. Darby Madden followed with 13 points, going nine for ten from the free throw line in the second half. Morgan Pierce and Carlie Lindley had 11 and 10 points respectively. Carlee Humphres finished with eight points and Reagan Kuykendall with six points.
Phil Campbell’s Carley Nix led all scorers with 18 points, and Chole Roberson had 16 points. Abby Davis finished with seven points, Bethany Harris with six points, and Darby and Dakota Elliott finished with four points each.

Vina 59, Belgreen 46
The Vina Red Devils improved to 10-1 with a big win at Belgreen Friday night. Vina’s Abby Hester led the Red Devils with 29 points en route to the 59-46 victory.
Vina led 9-5 at the end of the first quarter and improved the lead over the Bulldogs to 25-19 by halftime. Vina didn’t slow down out of the locker room, outscoring Belgreen 15-8 in the third quarter to extend the lead to 40-27 going into the final period of play. Vina went 15 of 20 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter to seal the win.
Following Hester’s 29 points, Kaitlyn King scored nine points, Gracie Raper added six points, and Emma Humphres had five points. Mary Clingan, Sarah Johnson, and Rayleigh Guinn scored two points each.
Cami Terrell led Belgreen with 14 points. She was followed by Katie Dempsey with nine points, Gabbie Moore and Emma Dempsey with six points each, Brianna Wood with five points, Emma Willingham with three points, Kaycee Wood with two points and Jasmine Martin with one point.
Red Bay 66, Belgreen 36
Darby Madden scored 27 points in powering the Red Bay Lady Tigers past the Belgreen Lady Bulldogs 66-36. Red Bay jumped out to a 16-6 first quarter lead. Belgreen outscored Red Bay 13-12 in the second quarter, giving the Tigers a 28-19 halftime advantage. Red Bay overwhelmed Belgreen in the third quarter 27-8, putting the game out of reach.
Allie Kennedy added 15 points for Red Bay. Madden and Kennedy were followed by Reagan Kuykendall with seven points. Morgan Pierce and Jordyn Mckinney had five points each. Mallori Miller pitched in three points. Savannah Shaw and Carlie Lindley had two points each.
Jasmine Martin and Katie Dempsey led Belgreen with 12 and 11 points respectively. Brianna Wood added three points. Kaycee Wilson, Gabbie Moore and Emma Dempsey had two points each.
Phil Campbell 56, Hackleburg 28
The Phil Campbell Bobcats ran past the outmatched Hackleburg Panthers 56-28. Phil Campbell outscored the Hackleburg in all four quarters. The Bobcats led 27-11 at halftime and 47-22 at the end of the third quarter, cruising their way to an easy win.
Phil Campbell’s Abby Davis almost outscored the Hackleburg herself, sinking 27 points. Davis was followed by Darby Elliott with 16 points. Dakota Elliott added six points, Bethany Harris finished with three points, and Anna Gunderman and Carly Nix scored two points each.
Vina 44, Brilliant 17
The Vina Lady Red Devils crushed the Brilliant Tigers last week 44-17. Vina led 13-2 after the first quarter as Kaitlyn King scored ten of her 14 points in the opening period of play. Vina carried a 21-9 lead into the locker at halftime and pulled away from Brilliant in the third quarter to take a 35-11 lead going into the final period of play. Abby Hester finished with six points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds. Emma Humphres had 12 points and 11 rebounds. Sarah Johnson finished with eight points and Gracie Raper with four points.
Colbert Heights 47, Tharptown 37
A slow start doomed the Tharptown Wildcats last week as they lost to Colbert Heights 47-37. Colbert Heights outscored Tharptown 9-2 in the first quarter. The game was basically even from that point on, with Tharptown outscoring Colbert Heights 16-15 in the second quarter to give Colbert Heights a 24-18 halftime lead. Colbert Heights outscored Tharptown 6-5 in the third quarter and 17-14 in the fourth quarter to hold on to the win.
Jessica Wilson and Brooke Daily scored nine points each for Tharptown. Linda Bahena, Klaudia Harris and Ameliah Dawson scored six points each. Hannah Campbell finished with one point.
Boys
Phil Campbell 55, Red Bay 45
The inside game of Hayden Copeland and the Phil Campbell Bobcats was too much for the Red Bay Tigers, as the Bobcats nabbed a 55-45 victory over their cross-county rival last week.
Phil Campbell jumped out to a 20-11 first quarter lead over Red Bay and extended the lead to 33-22 by halftime. Red Bay was able to close the gap to 46-38 by the end of the third quarter, but the Bobcats held on in the fourth quarter for the win.
Copeland led the Bobcats with 16 points. He was followed by Peyton Thomas with 12 points and Gage Roberson with 11 points. Jacob Anthony finished the game with six points, Rhett Benford and Thomas Baker had three points each, and Brody Nix contributed two points in the win.
Gath Weatherford led Red Bay with 17 points. He was followed by Colton Corum with 11 points. Hunter Bays and Peyton Green had six points each. Noah Brewer finished the game with two points.
Belgreen 55, Red Bay 37
After a slow start, the Belgreen Bulldogs found their pace and flew past the Red Bay Tigers 55-37 last week.
Red Bay took an early 14-8 first quarter lead, but Belgreen erased that lead with a 15-6 second quarter to take a 23-20 halftime lead. Belgreen extended their lead to 39-24 lead by the end of the third quarter.
Mason Bragwell led Belgreen with 19 points. Jacob Mayberry (10), Logan Seay (6) Joseph Welch (6), Brant Bragwell (4), Seth Taylor (3), Eli Hiser (2), Adam Green (2) and Grayson Moore (2) also scored for the Bulldogs.
Colton Corum led Red Bay with 13 points. Peyton Green finished with nine points, Gath Weatherford had eight points, Noah Brewer had four points, Hunter Bays three points and Luke Rooker finished with one point.
Hackleburg 66, Phil Campbell 58
A strong third quarter performance by the Hackleburg Panthers was enough to propel them past the Phil Campbell Bobcats 66-56.
Both teams struggled in the first quarter, scoring on only seven points between the two teams. Hackleburg led 4-3 at the end of the first stanza. Phil Campbell outscored Hackleburg 16-12 in the second quarter to take a 19-16 first half lead. The second half was a shootout with Hackleburg outscoring Phil Campbell 28-18 in the third quarter, giving the Panthers a 44-37 lead heading into the final quarter of play. Hackleburg outscored Phil Campbell 22-21 in the fourth quarter of play.
Hayden Copeland led Phil Campbell with 14 points. Rhett Benford and Jacob Anthony scored six points each. Gage Roberson, Brody Nix, Thomas Baker and Peyton Thomas finished with six points each.
Colbert Heights 52, Tharptown 43
The Tharptown Wildcats, known for having some three-point sharpshooters, had their worst performance from behind the arch in several years going 0-14 in the 52-43 loss to Colbert Heights.
Colbert Height led Tharptown 11-8 at the end of the third quarter and 19-13 at halftime. Colbert Heights extended that lead to double digits in the third quarter, 42-26.
Tharptown closed the gap in the fourth quarter, outscoring Colbert Heights 17-10, but it wasn’t enough.
Mikey Rosson scored more than half of Tharptown’s points with 23. Cole Daniel added ten points. Alex Argueta finished with six points. Levi McCormack and Misael Saldana had two points each.
Belgreen 74, Vina 14
The Belgreen Bulldogs had no problem with the Vina Red Devils on Homecoming night in Belgreen. The Bulldogs led the Red Devils 41-11 at halftime and cruised to the 74-14 win.
All of the Belgreen roster got in on the scoring action, with Mason Bragwell leading the way with 22 points. Shane Devaney (10), Payton Scott (8), Joseph Welch (6), Brant Bragwell (5), Logan Seay (5), Eli Hiser (4), Jacob Mayberry (4), Patrick Sykes (4), Adam Green (2), Grayson Moore (2) and Seth Taylor (2) all had points for Belgreen.
For Vina, Clay Allison had five points, Blake Hardin four points, Corbin Triplett three points and Andrew Upton two points.
