State unveils electronic voter registration

Whether someone is interested in Franklin County governance or the next President of the United States, time is running out to register to vote in the March primaries. Now that to-do can be done a little more easily.

Alabama has launched efforts to implement Electronic Voter Registration. Voters can register via www.alabamavotes.gov, after which a paperless form is submitted to the Board of Registrars in Franklin County.

To register, voters must be U.S. citizens, Alabama residents, at least 18 years old on or before election day, cannot be barred from voting by reason of a disqualifying felony conviction, cannot have been judged “mentally incompetent” in a court of law and must have a valid Alabama Driver’s License or Non-Driver’s Identification card.

For the March 1 primary election, the last day to apply for voter registration through the electronic application is Feb. 15.
