    County teams report hoops results

    Boys

    Phil Campbell 71, Belgreen 64

    The Phil Campbell Bobcats made a late surge to come from behind and beat their county rival Belgreen last week 71-64.

    Phil Campbell edged Belgreen in the first two quarters, 16-15 and 17-16, to take a 33-31 lead at halftime.  Belgreen took the lead, 46-43, with a strong third quarter.  The Bobcats posted 26 points in the final period of play while holding Belgreen to just 12 points to get the win.

    Peyton Thomas led all scorers with 27 points for Phil Campbell. He was followed by Hayden Copeland with 12 points and Grant Masterson’s 10 points. Others scoring for the Bobcats were Jacob Anthony (8), Noah Williams (5), Gage Roberson (5), Joe Hardy (2) and Thomas Baker (2).

    Mason Bragwell led Belgreen with 21 points. Payton Scott added 12 points, and Jacob Anthony scored 10 points. Others scoring for Belgreen were Seth Taylor (5), Brant Bragwell (5), Joseph Welch (4) and Drew Boshell (1).

     

    Allie Kennedy of Red Bay was responsible for 14 points in the Tigers’ victory over Belmont, Miss.

    Girls

    Red Bay 31, Belmont (Miss.) 26

    Allie Kennedy and Darby Madden combined for 26 points – the same number of points Red Bay allowed Mississippi rival Belmont to score the entire game – as the Tigers took the win 31-26.

    Red Bay trailed Belmont 12-7 at the end of the first quarter but slowly made their comeback to get the win.  The Tigers closed the gap to 16-15 by the end of the first half. Red Bay took the lead 25-24 at the end of the third quarter.

    Kennedy led the Tigers with 14 points. Madden added 12 points. Morgan Pierce scored six points, and Holly Hardin finished the game with one point.

     

    Phil Campbell 43, Belgreen 35

    The Phil Campbell Bobcats overcame a one-point second quarter to come back and defeat their in-county rival Belgreen last week 43-35.

    Phil Campbell led Belgreen 14-8 at the end of the first quarter. The Bulldogs stymied the Bobcats in the second quarter, outscoring them 9-1 to take a 17-15 halftime lead. Phil Campbell retook the lead in the third quarter 27-22 and held on for the win.

    Abby Davis led Phil Campbell with 12 points, followed by Carley Nix with 11 points. Others scoring for the Bobcats were Leah Gunderman and Chloe Roberson with eight points each.  Darby Elliot added three points, and Elizabeth Benford had one point.

    Allyson Bragwell led all scorers with 15 points for Belgreen. Brianna Wood added ten points. Others scoring for the Bulldogs were Jasmine Martin with four points, Gabbie Moore with three points and Shellie Barber with one point.

     

    Phil Campbell 61, Phillips 44

    The Phil Campbell Bobcats used a strong second quarter to power past the Phillips Bears 61-44 last week.  Phil Campbell led Phillips 13-12 at the end of the first quarter. The Bobcats outscored Phillips 20-7 in the second quarter to take a 33-18 halftime lead. The Bears made a minor comeback, cutting the Bobcats’ lead to 39-27, by the end of the third quarter.

    Davis led the Bobcats with 15 points. Gunderman added 14 points. Elliot chipped in 13 points, and Roberson had ten points. Benford and Nix rounded out Phil Campbell’s scoring with six and three points, respectively.

     

    Phil Campbell 54, Hackleburg 26

    The Lady Bobcats defeated Hackleburg 54-26.

     

    Hamilton 46, Belgreen 32

    The Belgreen Bulldogs fell behind early in the game and could never recover losing to Hamilton, 46-32.  Hamilton jumped out to a 10-5 first quarter lead. The Bulldogs held their own in the first half, trailing just 18-13 at halftime. Hamilton extended their lead to 30-23 by the end of the third quarter.

    Bragwell led the Bulldogs with 13 points. Others scoring for Belgreen were Moore (9), Johnna Oliver (3), Martin (3), Nicole Borden (3) and Wood (1).
