    County girls report basketball wins, losses

    Red Bay 57, Phil Campbell 37

    Darby Madden powered the Red Bay Tigers to a 57-37 area win over the Phil Campbell Bobcats last week.  Madden led all scorers with 27 points. Red Bay led Phil Campbell 12-8 at the end of the first quarter. The Tigers extended their lead to 48-25 by the end of the third quarter as they coasted to victory.

    Allie Kennedy scored 14 points for the Tigers. Others scoring for Red Bay were Morgan Pierce (9), Brooklyn Bolton (3), Hope Cook (2) and Jordyn McKinney (2).

    Leah Gunderman led the Bobcats with 12 points. Others scoring for Phil Campbell were Chloe Roberson (8), Abby Davis (7), Elizabeth Benford (4), Lily Williams (2), Darby Elliot (2) and Harley Voyles (2).

     

    Vina 57, Covenant Christian 48

    The Vina Red Devils came from behind to notch a big area win over Covenant Christian. Trailing 13-8 at the end of the first quarter, the Red Devils came storming back with A 17-9 second quarter that was topped off by a last second three-pointer by Kaitlyn King to give Vina a 25-22 halftime lead. Vina outpaced Covenant Christian 20-13 in the third quarter and, once again, a three-pointer at the buzzer, this time by Montana Howard, propelled the Red Devils into the final period of play with a 45-35 advantage

    “This was a total team win,” said Vina coach Richie Hester. “We played well together tonight to get this big area win.”

    Abby Hester led Vina with 21 points. Emma Humphres followed with 14 points. Others scoring for Vina were Mary Clingan (6), Howard (6), King (5), AnnaBelle Upton (3) and Gracie Raper (2).

     

    Red Bay 50, Baldwyn (MS) 32

    After trailing early in the game, the Red Bay Tigers defense stifled Baldwyn in the second and third quarters to notch a victory. Red Bay trailed Baldwyn 12-10 at the end of the first quarter. The Tigers powered their way past Baldwyn with an 18-3 second quarter and a 14-8 third quarter to give them a 42-23 advantage going into the final period of play.

    Darby Madden and Allie Kennedy led the way for Red Bay with 20 points and 18 points, respectively. Others scoring for Red Bay were Holly Hardin (3), Brooke Shewbart (2), Hope Cook (2), Brooklyn Bolton (2), Carlie Lindley (2) and Carlee Humphres (1).

     

    Belgreen 54, Phillips 53 (Overtime)

    The Belgreen Bulldogs went to 2-0 in area competition with an overtime win over the Phillips Bears. Phillips jumped out to a 14-6 lead in the first quarter. Belgreen responded with 19-10 second quarter to take a 25-24 halftime lead. Phillips retook the lead in the third quarter, outscoring Belgreen 36-30. The Bulldogs outpaced Phillips in the fourth quarter 19-13 to take the game into overtime. The Bulldogs outscored the Bears 6-4 in overtime to get the win.

    Allyson Bragwell led Belgreen with 25 points. Gabbie Moore added 18 points for the Bulldogs. Others scoring for Belgreen were Shellie Barber (3), Jasmine Martin (3), Brianna Wood (2), Johnna Oliver (2) and Nicole Borden (2).

     

    Red Bay 56, Sulligent 41

    Red Bay wasted no time in putting away area rival Sulligent last week. The Tigers outscored the Blue Devils 30-13 in the first quarter and 19-10 in the second quarter to take a decisive 49-23 halftime lead, which allowed Red Bay to coast to the win.

    Darby Madden and Allie Kennedy led Red Bay with 12 points and 11 points, respectively.  Others scoring for the Tigers were Holly Hardin (9), Brooklyn Bolton (9), Morgan Pierce (5), Brooke Shewbart (3), Carlee Humphres (2), Hope Cook (2), Carlie Lindley (2) and Jordan McKinney (1).

     

    Red Bay 48, Hamilton 32

    The Red Bay Tigers ran away from the Hamilton Aggies early in the game and coasted to another win. Red Bay jumped out to a 23-4 lead over Hamilton and never looked back. The Tigers led 35-12 at halftime.

    Darby Madden led the Tigers with 11 points. Others scoring for Red Bay were Allie Kennedy (9), Carlee Humphres (8), Hope Cook (7), Autumn Higginbottom (3), Morgan Pierce (3), Carlie Lindley (3), Brook Shewbart (2) and Jordyn McKinney (2).

     

    Hackleburg 48, Vina 45

    Tuesday at Hackleburg the Lady Red Devils lost a heartbreaker to the Lady Panthers, 48-45. Hackleburg led 34-28 going into the fourth quarter. Vina missed a couple of three-pointers in the last minute that could have changed the outcome.

    Emma Humphres led all scoring with 19 points and 12 rebounds. Abby Hester had 13 points with seven rebounds and seven assists. Mary Clingan had six points, and Kaitlyn King added three for Vina. Gracie Raper and Ashleigh Thompson finished out Lady Red Devils scoring with two each.
