Decatur Heritage Christian Academy came to Franklin-Hester Stadium last Friday and beat a red hot Vina Red Devils team that was riding a two-game win streak 36-8 in a big region game.

The Eagles scored on their first three possessions to go up big, 22-8, going into halftime.

Vina was led by RB/LB Tyler Renfrow, who got them on the board before the half. He finished the game with 124 yards rushing and Vina’s only touchdown of the game with a 7-yard run. He also added one interception on defense.

Eagles QB/CB Grayson Wakefield scored all five touchdowns for Decatur Heritage.

In the second half Vina failed to get on the board after an incredible 60-yard run from Renfrow to get the Red Devils inside the Eagles five yard line, turning it over on downs. That was a crucial drive that stalled.

Decatur Heritage scored in the third quarter on Wakefield’s second touchdown pass to WR/CB/FS Ben McGough. A two-point conversion by Wakefield put the Eagles up 30-8 with 7:14 left in the third. Wakefield scored again in the third with a 5-yard touchdown.

The fourth quarter was scoreless to end the game.

Vina head coach Luke Childers said he thought his team played hard until the end of the game. “We need to put last week’s game behind us,” Childers said. “We need to have a good week of practice and prepare to play a good team this Friday.”

Vina Red Devils (2-2) (1-1) look to get back to their winning ways and back on track as they face the Meek Tigers in their homecoming game at Franklin-Hester Stadium Friday.
