Roy C. Matthews, age 85, passed away Saturday, August 15, 2015 at Wheaton Franciscan – All Saints Medical Center. Roy was born in Russellville, October 6, 1929, son of the late Jessie and Josie (Nee: Borden) Matthews.
He proudly served his country as a Sergeant with the United States Army Fifth Engineers out of Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. On November 19, 1963 Roy was united in marriage to JoAnn M. Olson who preceded him in death, November 15, 1995. Roy was employed by Acme Die Casting for twenty-two years, retiring in 1999. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, gambling, bowling, and poker. Above all he cherished time spent with his family.
He will be greatly missed by his children, Joseph Matthews and wife, MaryBeth, New Lisbon, Dawn Klinkhammer and husband, Kevin, Edwin Polzean and wife, Heather, all of Racine; sisters, Elizabeth Clark of Russellville, Beatrice Cummings, Ill.; niece, MaryJo; special grandnieces, Kristen, Shelby, Nicole, and Ashley; furry companion “Snookie”; other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his loving companion, Mary Polzean.
Funeral services with Full Military Honors will be held Friday, August 21, 2015, 11 a.m. at West Lawn Memorial Park Chapel, 9000 Washington Avenue, Racine, Ill. Relatives and friends may meet with the family, Thursday at the funeral home from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m.
