Alumni Day reunites PCHS graduates

The annual Phil Campbell Alumni Day will be held on Aug. 2 at the PCHS auditorium.
“The main objective for having a school-wide alumni reunion is to bring classmates back to PCHS. It gives us all an opportunity to reminisce and catch up on what’s happened in the past year in each other’s lives as well as the community,” said Lynn Landers, president of the Phil Campbell High School Alumni. “We take time to remember and honor those fellow classmates that have passed away during the year.”
PCHS has relatively small class sizes in comparison with schools such as Russellville or Haleyville. Because of that, each class is not only close with its own class members but with members of other classes, making a school-wide reunion ideal.
The program and meal will begin at noon. Each plate will cost $10, although there is no cost to attend. It’s an informal event open to everyone, Landers said.
“Last year we had close to 100 people at the reunion. This year we hope to have that many or more. The newly-completed school will be open for everyone to view,” said Landers.
The reunion is not only for people who attended PCHS, but it also includes faculty, support personnel and anyone who has been affiliated with PCHS, both in the past and present.
This year, the very first PCHS Alumni Association Scholarship will be awarded to two PC students who plan on attending NWSCC, one male and one female, in the amount of $500 each. This year’s recipients are Danielle “Billie” Burns and Hayden Bell.
Donations will be accepted the day of the luncheon to cover the costs of this and future reunions. Attendees are invited to bring old yearbooks and old photos from the past for others to view.
