Dr. Billy H. Henson, died Saturday, April 11, 2015. He was born in Red Bay, He was former president of the Veterinary School at Auburn University, loved Auburn football and will always be a War Eagle. Before leaving Auburn he was offered the office of Dean but chose to stay with his career goal as a veterinarian, which loved and practiced for forty-seven years. He practiced in Corinth, Miss., Memphis, Tenn., Birmingham, and finally the Alabama Gulf Coast in Foley and Loxley. He was a member of Jubilee Baptist Church, Daphne. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving in the Korean War.
Services will be Tuesday, April 14, at 1 p.m. at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Red Bay, with Bro. Nelson Hight officiating. Burial will be in Red Bay City Cemetery.
Survivors are his wife of 64 years, Wilma Bostick Henson, Daphne; two children, Garry V. Henson and Venita Jo Linthicum, both of Daphne; seven grandchildren, Meg Javoronok, Beth Murray, Gail Henson, Katherine Henson, Holly Welborn, Lindsey Gannon and Taylor Seig; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Leslie “Buddy” Henson and Tommy Henson and his caretakers, Latreace Handy and family and Garry Henson and Teresa Smith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie and Ruby Hughes Henson, a sister, Evelyn Lipscomb and a brother, Charlie Henson.
Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Kelly Segars, Dr. Jimmy Perkins, Dr. Jim Jackson, Dr. Chuck Flowers, Dr. Wayne Alexander, Roger McCoy, Travis Little and Reggie Little.
Visitation will be Tuesday, April 14, 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. at Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay.
