Jessie Nadine Manley Swartz, beloved mother to Lynn Goggans and beloved grandmother to Desiree Guzman, went to her heavenly home on Friday, Oct. 3, 2014 at 7:17 pm at UAB.  She was 83 years old.

Nadine Manley was born in Russellville on May 25, 1931 to William and Jessie Manley. She graduated from RussellvilleHigh School and went to St. Vincent’s NursingSchool in Birmingham. After finishing her 2 year degree, she went to St. Vincent’s in New Orleans to complete her R.N, where she met and married Harold Alan Swartz. She moved to Ohio and went on to have a great career in nursing. Nadine returned to Alabama in 1994 and retired in 1999. Mrs. Swartz is preceded in death by her parents, step-mother Drew Manley, brothers Neal Manley and Joe Clyde Manley, sisters Ruth Gaston and Kathleen Green. She is survived by her daughter Judith Lynn Goggans, granddaughter Desiree Marie Guzman, sister Lynda Carol Zills, sister in law Alene Manley and countless cousins, nieces and nephews. In keeping with her dedication to medicine, she has donated her body to the school of medicine at UAB. Services will be announced when she is returned home.
