The Russellville Rotary Club held a fishing tournament on Cedar Lake this past Saturday to fund scholarships for graduating seniors.

The Second Annual Rotary Bass Tournament was originally scheduled for May 17 but was rescheduled in order to avoid a conflict with another fishing tournament being held that day at the Slick Rock Boat Ramp on Cedar Lake.

Rob DeVaney, one of the organizers of the event, said  he appreciated the fishermen who came out to the tournament and helped the club raise money for scholarships.

Prize money totaling $1,000 was awarded across the top three total weights.

The first place winners were Brian Bragwell and Sonny Boyd who amassed a total weight of 11 pounds and nine ounces. DeVaney Automotive and Sibley Oil donated money toward the scholarship fund along with the entrance fees of the seven teams that participated according to DeVaney.

“We are glad that we were able to raise some money for our scholarship fund,” DeVaney said.

“Hopefully these scholarships will be a big help to local graduates in the future.”
