Tharptown wins Russellville Spring Frenzy Invitational

The Tharptown Wildcats posted wins against Phil Campbell (5-2), Hatton (9-6), Falkville (6-3) and Wilson in the finals (9-6) of the Russellville Spring Frenzy Invitational on Saturday.

Tharptown and Wilson traded the lead four times in the championship game, but the Wildcats ended up on top with a 9-6 win.

Tharptown was able to pull off the win thanks to a strong fifth inning. A two-run error scored Haley Malone and Casey Fuller and gave the Wildcats the lead for good.

The Wildcats got a strong tournament from the top of their lineup.

Kalee Bain had five hits, three RBIs and scored four runs.  Autumn Sutter had four hits and scored two runs. Savannah Hamilton had five hits and scored seven runs. Morgan George had five hits, an RBI and scored six runs. Shelby Palmer had five hits and three RBIs. Haley Malone had six hits, four RBIs and scored five runs.

 

Belgreen wins the Cherokee Invitational

The Belgreen Lady Bulldogs won the Cherokee Invitational with wins over Waterloo (8-3), Covenant Christian (11-1), Biggersville (Miss.) (3-0), and Shoals Christian in the championship game (8-0).

Belgreen pitcher Laken Bragwell had a dominating performance. Bragwell allowed only seven hits and struck out 36 batters in the four tournament games. Bragwell was an infield hit away from a perfect game in the championship game of the tournament. She also had eight RBIs on six hits in the series.

Other totals from the tournament: Shellie Barber (4 hits, 1 RBI), Allyson Bragwell (3 hits, 2 RBIs), Cortny Williams (3 hits, 3 RBIs), Kylie Murray (3 hits, 5 RBIs), Abby Hester (4 hits, 2 RBIs) and Cammie Terrell (2 hits, 2 RBIs)

 

Belgreen 14, Red Bay 4

On March 11, the Lady Bulldogs defeated  Red Bay Lady Tigers 14-4. Belgreen scored four runs in the top of the first with hits from Abby Hester and Bailey Clark. In the bottom of the first, Jordan McKinney and Morgan Pierce each had a double for Red Bay, as they tied the score 4-4. The rest of game would be all Belgreen as Laken Bragwell would shut Red Bay down allowing only two more hits and striking out five over the course of the rest of the game.

Abby Hester scored in the second inning after being hit by a pitch to increase Belgreen’s lead to 5-4.  It would stay like that until the top of the fourth when the Lady Bulldogs sent ten batters to the plate. In the fourth their were hits by Cortny Williams, Anna Humphres and Laken Bragwell as Belgreen scored four times to take a 9-4 lead. In the top of the fifth, Cortny Williams had another hit and picked up two more of her five RBI’s. Anna Humphres and Shellie Barber each had a hit and picked up an RBI.

 

Belgreen 13, Brilliant 3

On Thursday, the Belgreen Lady Bulldogs traveled to Brilliant where they would avenge an earlier loss and beat Brilliant 13-3 in seven innings.

The Lady Bulldogs record is 4-2 and the will play Waterloo in the Cherokee Tournament on Friday night.

 

BASEBALL ROUND-UP

Vina 10, Brilliant 1

Andrew Hester pitched five innings, gave up four hits and struck out seven in Vina’s 10-1 win over Brilliant. Justin Gravitt had an RBI double in the first inning. Jon Sullivan went 3-4 with a double and two RBIs. Joseph Emerson and Hunter Kennedy each had an RBI single.

Vina 5, Waterloo 2

Tyler Renfrow pitched four innings, gave up two runs and struck out seven in Vina’s 5-2 win over Waterloo. Hunter Kennedy notched the save. Jon Sullivan had a two-run single in the second inning and a double in the fifth inning. Cody Wilkinson had two hits, an RBI and two runs.

Vina 16, Belgreen 5

Vina’s Tyler Renfrow was the winning pitcher in a 16-5 win over Belgreen. Cody Wilkinson went 2-2 with a double, three RBIs and scored three runs. Jon Sullivan had an RBI double. Justin Gravitt had two RBIs, Daniel Wooten had an RBI triple and Zack Creekmore had an RBI single.

Vina 13, Belgreen 0

Vina’s Andrew Hester picked up the win in a 13-0 shutout of the Belgreen Bulldogs. Hester gave up only two hits and struck out four. At the plate, Hester was 1-3 with RBI and scored two runs. Drake Hester went 3-4 with 2 RBIs, a double and scored three runs. Cody Wilkinson went 3-3 with four RBIs and scored two runs. Jon Sullivan went 1-2 and scored two runs.

Russellville 4, Albertville 2

Russellville defeated Albertville 4-2. Reed Smith led the way for the Golden Tigers with two hits, a walk and an RBI. Austin Kitterman added a hit. Trevor Malone added an RBI for Russellville.
