County school system receives grant for pre-school classrooms

The Franklin County School System was recently awarded one of four state inclusive preschool classroom grants for the upcoming fiscal year.

According to Administrative Assistant Robin Pharr, the system is excited about the opportunity to expand their current PALS preschool class into a comprehensive, 5-day program.

During the spring, the system was presented with an opportunity to apply for the $65,000 grant.

Pharr, along with Theresa Garrard – Preschool Specialist and Michelle Marbutt – Speech Pathologist, wrote the proposal in May.  The system was notified of the award in July.

The Preschool Academic and Language Services program will serve both disabled and nondisabled students in an inclusive classroom located on the Belgreen High School campus.  The program will begin on Oct. 1 and will provide an extensive curriculum for 12-14 preschoolers living in the Franklin County School District.

For more information about the PALS program please contact the Franklin County Special Education Department at 256-332-8814.
