Fay Thorn, 90, died Sunday, Feb. 3, 2013, at Red Bay Hospital.

He was born Feb. 22, 1922, in the Pogo community. He was co-owner of Thorn & Thrasher Garage in Red Bay for many years. He was one of the founding fathers of the Pleasant Site Volunteer Fire Department Feb. 22, 1991, and was the only chief. A member of Harmony Baptist Church for over 70 years, he was a deacon since 1967 and Sunday School teacher for over 50 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in World War II in the occupation of Japan.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013, at Harmony Baptist Church at Pleasant Site with Bro. Roger Wood and Bro. Greg Thorn officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Site Cemetery.

He is survived by one son, Norman Thorn and wife, Lottie, Red Bay; one daughter, Rebecca Holland and husband, Randy, Red Bay; one brother, Ray Thorn and wife, Hildred, Red Bay; four grandsons, Tim Thorn, Greg Thorn and wife, Kristie, Radley Holland and wife, LaKesha, and Reggie Holland and wife, Lauren; six great grandchildren, Jordan Thorn, Matthew Thorn, Austin Thorn, Nicholas Thorn, Brantley Holland and Case Holland; and one great-great-granddaughter, Ansley Brooke Hallman.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Eva Malene Bates Thorn, his parents, Luther Dow and Nannie Russell Thorn, and a brother, Milton Thorn.

Pallbearers will be Tim Thorn, Radley Holland, Reggie Holland, David Thorn, Dale Hester, Keith Bates, Billy Bates and Verlon Kiel. Honorary pallbearers will be Austin Thorn, Nicholas Thorn, Matthew Thorn and Tom Wingfield.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Pleasant Site Cemetery Fund, 2655 Highway 90, Red Bay, AL 35582.
