Lady Bobcats, Lady Tigers beat Colbert Heights

PHIL CAMPBELL, RED BAY — The Phil Campbell Lady Bobcats picked up another region win over the Colbert Heights Lady Wildcats Tuesday night by a final of 53-34.
Phil Campbell led the game from start to finish and was never in any position to lose the contest.
“We started playing some better defense tonight,” Phil Campbell head coach Darit Riddle said. “They hit some shots, but we called time out and adjusted for what they were doing. We picked it up well.”
The Lady Bobcats worked hard on defense on the night, and it showed when Colbert Heights had only four points at the end of the first quarter.
Phil Campbell led 12-4 after the first period, but the Lady Wildcats came back and outscored their opponent 14-12 in the second quarter.
The Lady Bobcats still had a 24-18 advantage at intermission, but the Lady Wildcats kept it close in the third period as well.
Phil Campbell led 35-31 at the end of the third after the two teams swapped short runs on offense.
The fourth quarter was all Phil Campbell, though, as the Lady Bobcats closed the game by outscoring Colbert Heights 18-3, giving them the 19-point area win.
“Tori [Pace] and Autumn [Thomas] did well inside for us tonight, and then after that everything started to click,” Riddle said.
Hope Cook led the Lady Bobcats in scoring with 13 points on the night.
Thomas and Pace both narrowly missed out on double-doubles, as Thomas had 7 points and 12 rebounds and Pace totaled 9 points and 9 rebounds.
Also scoring for Phil Campbell were: Madison Hardy (11), Vickie McAlister (9), Ashley Baker (2) and Kaitlyn Vickery (2).
Red Bay 46, Colbert Heights 18
If the Lady Wildcats looked to rebound after the area loss to Phil Campbell, it sure was not going to come against Red Bay, another region opponent.
By halftime Red Bay had a 31-4 lead, and head coach Donnie Roberts was once again able to rest his starters for half of the game.
Even with all subs in the Lady Tigers held the Lady Wildcats to five points in the third quarter and nine in the fourth.
Red Bay led at the end of the third by a score of 36-9 en route to the 28-point area win.
“We don’t have feeder schools, so we’ve done what we have over the years at Red Bay with the kids here in the community,” Roberts said. “It feels good to get another win, and we’ve finished the area at 6-0.
“We draw the brackets for the area tournaments soon, and that starts the state playoffs. I’m excited about it.”
Allie Kennedy led Red Bay in points on the night with 10. Lexy Lindsey had 8 points and Alaina Hester added 6.
Also scoring for the Lady Tigers were: Hannah McKinney (6), Kasey Sparks (5), Darby Madden (4), Danielle Hastings (2), Holly Harden (2), Katie Burks (2) and Morgan Pierce (1).
