Students mark 100th day of school with celebration

This was a special week for kindergarten students across the county as they celebrated their 100th day of school.

West Elementary School in Russellville held their celebration on Friday, which included activities, games and a special program at the end of the day.

Kindergarten teacher Terri Swaim said many of the kindergarten students also dressed up like they were 100 years old.

“We think it’s important to celebrate the students’ 100th day of school because it’s a milestone for them,” Swaim said.

“They’ve worked so hard this school year and it’s good to recognize their achievements.”

Swaim said the students have been learning to count to 100 by ones, fives and tens, and they incorporated those lessons into Friday’s special program where they counted teddy bears, popped balloons, and sang and danced.

“The kids have been excited about this all week,” she said, “and they’ve been especially excited today.”

But Swaim said the students aren’t the only ones who get excited.

“I’ve taught kindergarten for 36 years and I still get excited about this day,” she said. “It’s just fun for everyone.”
