Red Bay council asks ambulance service to cease operations

RED BAY – At Monday night’s meeting, members of the Red Bay City Council voted to approve a letter asking a local ambulance service to discontinue operations in their city.
Members decided to send a letter to Pleasant Bay Ambulance Service, based in Russellville, to cease operations inside the city of Red Bay because the company does not currently meet the requirements of the city’s ambulance ordinance.
Mayor Bobby Forsythe said the reason the council cited in the letter was the fact that Pleasant Bay was unable to meet the specified time constraints for responding to emergency situations.
“Pleasant Bay does not have an ambulance station close to the city limits of Red Bay so they cannot meet the four-minute response time required of city ambulance services as specified in the city’s ambulance ordinance,” Forsythe said.
“The reason you draft and adopt ordinances in the first place is to set forth rules and regulations that will be in the best interest of the citizens.
“We have no hard feelings towards Pleasant Bay, we just feel it is necessary to abide by the terms of our ordinance and make sure our citizens receive the quickest care possible in emergency situations.”
