Shirrell Lannon King, 76, Spruce Pine, passed away peacefully at his residence Monday, June 11, 2012, surrounded by his loving wife of 57 years and family.

A celebration of his life will be held Wednesday, June 13, 2012, at 11 a.m. at his church home, Gravel Hill Church of Christ, Phil Campbell.

In Lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made on Shirrel’s behalf to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

He graduated from Belgreen High School in 1954 and later married his high school sweetheart, Hazel Creekmore King.

He was well known as an auto mechanic for 40 years, working for Grissom Motor Company, Tinsley Buick and then opened up his own business, King’s Garage, where he retired from in 2000.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Silver and Arvella King, brother, Shannon King; two very special in-laws, Aaron and Corky Creekmore.

He is survived by his wife, Hazel Creekmore King; children, Ricky King and wife, Anita, of Hartselle, Tammie Pierce and husband, Steve, of Belgreen, Randy King and wife, Valerie, Russellville; sister, Ophelia Mayfield and husband, Jimmy, Russellville; seven grandchildren, Kristy Hawkins and husband, Jim, Allen Pierce, Anna Pierce, Kayla King, Brandon King, Dakota King, Summer King; three great grandchildren, Trey, Jack and Emma Hawkins and three nieces.

Thanks to Dr. Lynn Ridgeway and his staff and to our family and friends who have been so supportive.
