Sheffield defeats Phil Campbell

SHEFFIELD — The Phil Campbell Bobcats baseball team lost a close 4-3 game to the Sheffield Bulldogs Monday night in the Sheffield Invitational Tournament.

The Bobcats lead 3-0 after one inning, but a late comeback earned the Bulldogs the victory.

“Really this was typical of an early season baseball game,” Phil Campbell head coach Darren Welborn said. “We’re still not putting the ball in play enough, and we need to be more aggressive at the plate.”

Walks with the bases loaded by the Sheffield pitcher brought in two runs to give the Bobcats a 2-0 lead early on. An RBI single made that a 3-0 advantage for Phil Campbell.

Sheffield got a run on a sac fly in the bottom of the second. This score would not change until the bottom of the fifth when the Bulldogs scored a run on another sac fly.

Sheffield took the lead by one run by scoring twice more in the inning, one on a hit and another on a wild pitch.

Phil Campbell was unable to answer, so Sheffield picked up its second win on the season.
