Tigers earn ranking for 2-0 start

RED BAY — The Red Bay football team has put together impressive wins in back-to-back weeks to open the season 2-0 and earn a spot in the Alabama Sports Writers Association Class 2A poll.

The Tigers are ranked 10th in this weeks poll, setting up a battle of ranked teams when Red Bay hosts eighth-ranked Colbert Heights Friday.

Red Bay has used a stifling defense to hold Sheffield and Lexington to a combined 17 points. The defense will have to continue to play well this week.

Colbert Heights has averaged 42.5 points during its first two games of the season. The Wildcat defense has also been strong, allowing an average of 13 points.

Red Bay’s offense has nearly doubled that, scoring an average of 25.5 points per game.

The winner of this week’s game will clinch at least a share of the top spot in Class 2A, Region 8.

Colbert Heights won last year’s game, squeezing out a 20-14 victory at home.

Friday’s game begins at 7 p.m.
