Robert William May, 84, of Russellville, Ala., died Tuesday, May 31, 2011, at his residence.

Mr. May had lived his entire life in Franklin County and was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Russellville, where he served as a deacon and church treasurer.  He was a retired rural letter carrier and a veteran of the U.S. Army.  He was also a member of the Rural Letter Carriers’ Association, the USGA, an avid fisherman and a lifelong Alabama fan.

Funeral services were held Friday, June 3, 2011 at Pinkard Funeral Home Chapel, Russellville, with Mark Woodruff officiating.  Burial was in Franklin Memory Gardens.

He is survived by his wife, Jean L. May; daughter, Judy May Burcham and husband, Chris, of Russellville; sisters, Olean M. Seal, of Russellville, Martha Agnes Kilbourn, of Clinton, Miss., and Kathryn M. Rhoden, of Muscle Shoals; grandchildren, Patrice Burcham Smith and husband, Ben, of Muscle Shoals, and Jordan Hale Burcham, of Birmingham; great-granddaughter, Leigha Patrice Smith, Muscle Shoals; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by parents, Otho D. and Kate H. May; brothers, Otho D. May, Jr., James Edward May; and sister, Wilodean M. Seal; nephews, Durwood Johns, Chris Kilbourn; great niece, Autumn Winn.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
