Johnny Lorene Holland Singleton, 87, of Red Bay, died Monday, May 16, 2011 in Phil Campbell, Ala.
She was born in Alabama to Delton and Arlie Rollins Holland. She gave her life to Christ and joined Ebenezer Baptist Church in Vina, Ala. She loved her church and although she moved to Phil Campbell, she continued to attend whenever her health permitted. She had the honor of being the longest-serving member in the church.
On April 24, 1948, Lorene married Alfred Singleton and they were married fifty-one years when Alfred passed away in 1999. Lorene devoted her life to being a helpmate to her husband and making a home for him and their five children. Lorene had a magical touch when it came to providing for her family. She had a special talent for taking a little and stretching it to fill her family’s needs. She was a loving, caring, resourceful example to her children.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at Ebenezer Baptist Church with Bro. W.D. Humphres and Bro. Matthew Haney officiating. Burial was in Ebenezer Cemetery. Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, Ala. assisted the family.
She is survived by five children, Linda Weimer and husband, Ralph, of Meridian, Miss., Joyce Pounders and husband, Barry, and Bonnie Radachi, all of Phil Campbell, Ala., Jane White and husband, Ronnie, of Carrollton, Ga. and Mark Singleton and wife, Carrie, of Red Bay, Ala.; four brothers, J.T. Holland and wife, Gladys, of Tremont, Miss., F.V. Holland and wife, Verdie, and R.B. Holland and wife, Lila, all of Vina, Ala. and Thurston Holland and wife, Faye, of Trinity, Ala.; three sisters, Cutaw Manasco, Geneva Griffus and husband, Bill, and Brenda Humphres and husband, Loyd, all of Vina, Ala.; one brother-in-law, Paul Singleton, of Vina, Ala.; nine grandchildren, Michael Pounders and wife, Kristen, Erica Walker and husband, Jim, Daniel Radachi, Andy Pounders, Jessica Weimer, Kimberly Wigen and husband, D.J., Angie Singleton, Tasha Singleton and Katie Singleton; three great-grandchildren, George Walker, A.J. Walker and Elizabeth Pounders; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Michael Pounders, Danny Radachi, Jim Walker, Andy Pounders, Eddie Holland, Russell Manasco and Steven Singleton.
