Lester William Hood, 81, passed away Saturday, April 30, 2011.
He was a devoted husband for 61 years. He was also a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a member and minister of the Freewill Baptist Church for 58 years. He also worked on the railroad and was a farmer until he retired.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 4, at Liberty Chapel Free Will Baptist Church with Bro. Robert Partridge, Bro. Greg Pace, Bro. Delmer Duboise and Bro. Hollis Boyd officiating. He will lie in state one hour prior to the service.
He is survived by his loving wife, Verdie Hood; two sons, Chester Hood (Patricia-deceased), Kerry Hood and wife, Charlotte; one daughter Wanda Robinson (Larry-deceased); seven grandchildren, Shelia Smith, Kevin Hood and wife, Terri, Ladana Kirkland and husband, Josh, Dale Hood and wife, Britni, Twylia Szabo and husband, James, Jesslyn and Jonathan Hood; six great-grandchildren, Robin, Raven, and John-Myles Kirkland, Katelynn Casewell, Landon Hood and Kaleigh Szabo; one brother, Cecil Hood and wife, Mildred; one sister, Nellie Shirley; sister-in-law, Francis Hood; and a host of family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Frank Hood and Allie Burks Hood; four sisters, Magdalene Hood, Stella Voce, Paulaine Motes, Anne Mae Motes; two brothers, Hugh Donald Hood and Presley Hood; three brother-in-laws, Virle Motes, Ethridge Motes and Lonnie Shirley; one son, James Edward Hood; and great-grandson, Joshua Caleb Casewell.
