Job shadows learn about career paths

My name is Lauren Gray and I am a participant in the Franklin County Junior Leadership Program.

On February 2, I had the opportunity to job shadow with Kellie Singleton at the Franklin County Times. During the day, I interviewed two other students who were job shadowing local pharmacists in Russellville.

The first interview was with Kallie Sutton from Russellville High School. She was shadowing at Hometown Pharmacy.  Kallie hopes to attend Ole Miss University to become a pharmacist technician. When asked about her inspiration for working in pharmacy, Kallie said, “I love the atmosphere and working with people.”

During her day she helped fill prescriptions.

“The phones ring a lot so I’ve been answering calls, too,” she said.

When asked about staying in the Franklin County area, Kallie said, “This is where my family and friends are and where I grew up so I’d really enjoy staying close to home.”

The next interview was with Jennifer Montajo who was job shadowing at The Drug Shop. She is also from Russellville High School. Jennifer hopes to one day become a cardiothoracic surgeon, but she wanted to job shadow at a pharmacy to get a background in working with medicine.

During her day, she helped fill prescriptions and went on deliveries. She has not made any decisions on a college but she does want to explore and travel to new places.

When asked about her inspiration for being a doctor she replied, “I want to help people.”

In the mean time, Jennifer plans to find a part-time job at a local pharmacy until she finishes high school.

Overall, I think everyone had a great experience during their job shadows.  There are plenty of great opportunities in Franklin County and I’m glad I got to be a part of this and experience reporting and interviewing with Kellie. I would like to thank all those who helped in the job shadowing for making this possible for students in the county.
