Indictment charges man with enticing child

A recent grand jury indicted a Guatemalan man for his inappropriate behavior towards a child at a Red Bay youth league football game this past fall.

Amner Obel Lopez Figueroa, 23, an illegal alien who was staying in Red Bay at the time of the incident , was indicted by the January grand jury for enticing a child for immoral purposes, Franklin County District Attorney Joey Rushing said.

According to Rushing, the seven-year-old female victim was playing in an area of the stadium when she was approached by Figueroa who hugged her and asked her to come into the bathroom with him.

Rushing said the victim ran away from Figueroa and told her parents about what happened.

The victim’s parents notified authorities and Figueroa was arrested and transported to the Franklin County Jail where he was being held for violations with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

While being detained, Figueroa managed to escape from the Franklin County Jail on Oct. 2 by going over a razor wire fence in the exercise area.

Correction officers were able to purse Figueroa as far as the Mike Green Industrial Park before losing track of him.

Figueroa remains at large.

Figueroa is described as a Hispanic male being 5 feet 7 inches tall, weighing 160 pounds, and having black hair and brown eyes.

Anyone with information of his whereabouts is urged to call the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department at their 24-hour number, 256-332-8820, or any local law enforcement agency.
