Local charities trying to make holidays better
The holidays are a time when we are encouraged to think of others before we think of ourselves.
We mingle in large crowds trying to find the popular toy for our kids or we spend hours looking for the special, thoughtful gift for our spouse.
In these tough economic times, however, there are others we could be thinking about as well — those who cannot afford to give their families a spectacular holiday season.
There are a couple of charities getting involved in helping with this problem.
Faith Mission is collecting canned foods to help provide these families with a nice meal. Donations can be made at Calvary Baptist Church, Big Star, Foodland, Save-A-Lot and The Franklin County Times.
The Helping Santa Program will provide the less fortunate children of the area with gifts during the holidays. The City of Russellville is accepting toys and donations to help this program.
It is the season to think of your neighbors and we encourage you to donate to one of these programs if you are able.
