Tide will roll in T-town

Friday in Bryant-Denny Stadium, two of the best teams in the country will square off in the most anticipated Iron Bowl since 1994 when two unbeaten and top-ten teams met.

This year the defending national champion Alabama Crimson Tide rolls into the game 9-2 and ranked No. 9 in the latest Associated Press poll. The Auburn Tigers come in undefeated at 11-0 and ranked second in the AP poll and most importantly, the BCS. This is the third straight year the game features an undefeated team. In those other two matchups there was a clear cut better team.

Although Alabama had to rally late last year to pull out a win on the Plains, 26-21, most observers felt going in that Alabama had the better team. That was also the case in 2008 when Alabama routed Auburn 36-0 at home.

This year’s game features two very good football teams.

Alabama spent the first half of the season ranked No. 1 in the country before losing at South Carolina and then fell late at LSU.

Auburn has been rolling up yardage and points at a historic pace, but struggled in road wins at Mississippi State and Kentucky.

To quote CBS play-by-play announcer Verne Lundquist; “There are few truths in this uncertain world, but one is….this ain’t Kentucky.”

Auburn’s unprecedented streak of NOT winning a national championship will move to 53 years.
