Hallmark looking to life beyond sports

Editor’s Note: Franklin’s Future is a regular feature spotlighting a high school senior in Franklin County and what they have planned for life after graduation.

Trevor Hallmark has tried to put his stamp on every male oriented sport associated with Tharptown High School, but he doesn’t see himself making a career out of it since he received his diploma.

The 18-year-old Wildcat graduate is not real sure about where he will take his next step, but all of his interests are pulling him towards a career outdoors.

Hallmark has chosen to attend a community college to gather his basic study credits, but hasn’t decided whether he will be at Northwest-Shoals or Calhoun next semester.

Hallmark is confident, however, that eventually he would like to get down to Mississippi State to snag a degree in Forestry, believing that to be a perfect career choice for him.

“I’ve always loved being outside and always told myself that I wouldn’t get an indoor job,” he said. “If I absolutely have to I will, but I’d rather enjoy what I do instead of hating it everyday.”

Hallmark said the forestry field will keep him outdoors and that is really the only thing that has convinced him to go after that type of career. He also said, after college, he wants a career that could possibly bring him back here to work.

“I had a guy tell me once that I might have to go down south for a couple of years to get experience before I could come back here and work,” he said. “Hopefully after I graduate from college, I’ll head down there, stay for two years and come back here. This is where I grew up and my friends and family are here. I can’t see myself anywhere else.”

Hallmark has thought about maybe ending up wearing the bulldog maroon and white on the baseball field, but doesn’t plan on hitting the big leagues.

“I’d like to go try out in college, but not necessarily go pro in sports,” he said.

As far as graduating from high school, Hallmark said he would definitely miss people he has shared good memories with through the years.

The “perfect” day for Hallmark would consist of getting out on the lake before the sun rises and casting out a line into the water and catching fish.

“After a full morning of fishing, I’d like to go back home, grill a little and play some ball with my buddies,” he said. “Back in the day before we were driving and stuff we use to walk down to the creek and fish, afterwards we would catch a ride from a truck driving up the road. Man, those were the good ole days.”

Hallmark said he would probably go hunting in the mountains of Colorado if he could chose anywhere in the world to visit.

Hallmark said he would have been split from his classmates a lot sooner if it hadn’t been for the school expansion.

Hallmark was in the eighth grade when the new THS was built and said he was glad they extended the grades because he really didn’t want to leave.

Now that Hallmark’s days of walking down the halls of THS are over, he begins to stare down the horizon of his future and hopes it will be a successful one.
