Industrial Park gets sewer grant

Sen. Roger Bedford announced a $650,000 grant for the Phil Campbell Industrial Park Wednesday afternoon.

Bedford said the grant would allow a sewer system to be installed in the industrial park.

“They’ve had a lot of people look at the property but they all required a sewer system,” Bedford said.

Phil Campbell Mayor Jerry Mays said about 12 businesses have looked at locating in Phil Campbell but the problem of the current infrastructure keeps them away.

The 83-arce industrial park has access to Highway 13 and the railroad, which are big assets for the park.

“We have the only industrial park in the county with rail access, and that’s a big positive for the park since a lot of industries use rail service,” Mays said.

Bedford said he hopes the completion of the sewage system will make the park ready for prospective industry to come into the county.

Mays said work will begin on the project as soon as possible but he isn’t sure of the time line.

The town has completed all the environmental studies, geotechnical analysis, and wetland, historical, and archeological reports on the Industrial Park and an engineered master plan has also been completed.

Funding for the sewer project was secured through the Alabama Bond Commission, on which Sen. Bedford serves as a member.

In addition to the industrial park, the town has the highway coming through to connect Muscle Shoals to Interstate 22.

“This new road is going to be a lifesaver for our county and Winston County as well because it will pass by their new industrial park as well,” Mays said.
