Vina hosting centennial celebration Melissa Cason

VINA – The Town of Vina is gearing up for a celebration that has been 100 years in the making.
The town will host a centennial celebration May 16 to commemorate the town's 100th birthday.
The town was founded on Feb. 9, 1909. Committee members have been busy planning the celebration for months with the help of event coordinator Billy Boyd.
"We are planning a full day of activities," committee chair Kathy Franklin said.
She said the event will begin at 9 a.m. and will continue throughout the day.
"We will have drawings for prizes every 30 minutes to encourage people to stay," Franklin said.
In order to be eligible to win, you must be present at the time of the drawing.
"We've got all kinds of prizes like gift cards to different places," Franklin said.
Mayor D.W. Franklin will give the welcome at 10 a.m. followed by the cutting of the birthday cake and a balloon release.
"We are going to release 100 balloons, one for each year," Franklin said.
There will also be entertainment throughout the day, and there will be several arts and crafts vendors as well.
"We have over 20 vendors committed to attending the celebration so there will be plenty to do and see," Franklin said.
Other activities include a car and tractor show and a horse judging beginning at noon.
Franklin said there will be inflatables and a train for the kids to play on this year.
