Extra effort for safety

By Staff
Local leaders have really stepped up to the plate when it comes to ensuring the safety of residents.
Last month, the City of Russellville opened two new storm shelters that can be used to protect up to 200 people in the event of a tornado outbreak.
Beginning next month, smoke detectors will be available to Russellville residents who are currently without.
Thanks to a grant and funding from Sen. Roger Bedford, Fire Chief Joe Mansell said at least 50 smoke detectors would be made available to the public at no charge. This goes well above and beyond of what is required of the council, Sen. Bedford and Rep. Morrow.
Additionally, Mansell said firefighters would also inspect any exiting smoke detectors to make sure they are functioning properly.
Fire Marshall Bobby Malone said the department also offers home inspections to Russellville residents who want an analysis of their home's fire protection.
It's reassuring that these public servants are willing to use their knowledge in skills to prevent disaster from striking your home.
