Thursday Update: Drowning appears to be accidental

Franklin County authorities said the drowning of a Red Bay man Tuesday appears to be an accident.
Franklin County Sheriff Larry Plott said the body of 62-year-old Johnny Ward, 100 Pearson Road, was recovered from the waters of Bear Creek Canal just after midnight along Alabama 11.
Plott said it was fairly common for Ward to frequent this same fishing spot. Typically, he said, someone would drop Ward off at the creek and return to pick him up. Plott said a family member went to pick up Ward around 10 p.m. and discovered him missing.
