Center's outreach spreading

By Staff

The disciples at the Russellville Dream Center are stepping up their community involvement and adding two new programs to their list of community outreach.
Dream Center Director Shawn Reathford said the center has begun their Adopt-a-Block program to help give back to the community.
"Our goal is to help those who don't get a lot of help from anywhere else," Reathford said. "It's more about ministering to the community than it is about cleaning up a block."
The disciples help area residents' by cleaning their yard, raking their leaves and doing little things around the house.
But, the main point during that process is sharing the love of Jesus with the community and to give them love that they might not otherwise receive.
"Last week, we visited a lady that was elderly and in need. Nobody in this community had ever been by to check," Reathford said. "That's what this is all about. We are giving these people more than just a clean yard."
The Adopt-a-Block program is open to volunteers from the public as well.
"We want to get as many volunteers from the public as we can," Reathford said. "The more people who are involved, the more people can be helped through this program."
The Adopt-a-Block program outreach is held every Saturday. Volunteers should meet at the Dream Center at 10 a.m. each week.
In addition to the Adopt-a-Block, the center is working to provide Christian-based entertainment on Friday nights beginning at 7:30 p.m.
"We will have different things at this each week," Reathford said.
"This week we have a Christian band coming from Florence. It's just a time of fellowship and worship."
The free worship services will be held at the center's church, The Church on the Street located on Jackson Ave. in Russellville.
"We'll have snacks before the service starts," Reathford said.
"The public is encouraged to attend."
