Legion Post shooting for Ladies Auxiliary

The old saying goes, "Behind every good man, there's a good woman," and it's no different for American veterans.
The American Legion Post 64 will meet Sept. 13 with the hopes of adding a few good women by chartering a Ladies Auxiliary at the Russellville Post.
Chris Ozbirn, a member of the Legion Post Auxiliary in Tuscumbia who is helping to organize the auxiliary initiative in Russellville said the auxiliary serves in a supporting role of the American Legion, helping to organize fundraisers and community outreach projects along side the men.
"In Tuscumbia, we sell the Poppies, like the men do, we make baskets for the nursing homes and we have several other community projects that help support the Post," she said.
To apply for a charter, the auxiliary needs at least 10 women to sign up at the meeting next Thursday at 6 p.m. at Jonathan's Steakhouse in Russellville.
The only requirement for membership is that each woman be married to or related to a veteran.
However, Ozbirn said it is not required that the woman's husband be a member of Post 64, or any other Post.
"All you have to be is related to or married to a veteran," she added.
Ladies wanting more information about joining the Ladies Auxiliary are asked to call Ozbirn at 332-8827.
