Local residents should support Red Bay Founders Fest

By Staff
Sometimes, nothing brings a community together like a good party.
After a rough year for Red Bay, marked by a fire that destroyed city hall, the city will celebrate its heritage tomorrow with the annual Founders Fest celebration.
Organized by the Franklin County Chamber of Commerce, which also coordinates the Watermelon Festival, the event will be held in the Red Bay City Park and will begin at 9 a.m. and conclude at 6 p.m.
The musical entertainment will begin at 11 a.m., but there is much more to Saturday's event than just the fine music.
There will be arts and crafts, food, games, an antique car and truck show, an antique tractor show and parade, the Quinn's Ranch Walk-a-thon, a Storytelling Festival and Old Time Craft Demonstrations at Cypress Cove Farm in Red Bay, and the Franklin County Cattlemen will be selling their famous steak sandwiches.
Also, the library and Red Bay Museum will be open.
Those who haven't already visited the Red Bay Museum should strongly consider doing so this weekend.
Many new items have been added to the museum's collection recently, including a new room that shows items from several old homes in Red Bay. Other additions have been made in several of the other exhibits such as the theater, depot, dry good store and others. The Tammy Wynette exhibit will showcase a new set of gowns the entertainer wore on stage, boots worn by her daughter Georgette Jones as a child and more surprises.
The Civitan Club, which sponsors the museum, will be on hand as well with many items for sale that day including the Red Bay History Book, the Red Bay afghan, brass ornaments depicting Red Bay Landmarks, with this year's new design the Red Bay City Hall, Red Bay postcards and Alabama Dirt Shirts.
We thank the organizers of this event who have worked so hard, and we strongly urge you to support the Red Bay Founders Fest.
For more information please contact the Franklin County Chamber of Commerce at 332-1760 or Red Bay City Hall at 356-4473.
