Russellville police are still searching for a man believed to have been involved in the attempted burglary of a local store. They have another man in custody in relation to the incident, Chief Chris Hargett said.
Hargett said Michael Durane Humphrey, 25, of 228 Victory Lane in Huntsville, was arrested early Wednesday morning and charged with possession of burglary tools and first-degree criminal mischief. Police are searching for David Lashell Hannan, Jr., 31, of 2401 Vining Avenue in Huntsville. He is a black male, 6 feet 5 inches tall, weighs approximately 185 pounds and has black hair and brown eyes.
Hargett said officers patrolling on the south end of Russellville around 3 a.m. Wednesday noticed a vehicle parked in the Dowdle Gas building parking lot.
Officers patrolled a nearby shopping center and noticed a man running from the back of Fred's, a variety store located in the Food World Shopping Center on U.S. 43, into a wooded area.
Police found the back door of Fred's forced open and wires to the security system cut. Nothing was missing from the store.
The Franklin County Sheriff's Department canine unit was called in to assist in the search for Hannan, who was identified by documents found in the vehicle and by Humphrey.
The investigation into the case is continuing, Hargett said, and there is a possibility that others may have been involved in the attempted burglary.
A reward is being offered by the Russellville Police Department for any information leading to the arrest of the individuals involved in the burglary.
Anyone with any information about the incident should contact the Russellville police at 332-2230.
