Kennedy, McCulloch are Mizeman finalists

Red Bay senior Kurt Kennedy and Russellville senior Maurice McCulloch have been named finalists for the ninth annual American Benefits Corporation-Mizeman Trophy Award.
Chris Nance of Deshler is the third finalist for the award, which will be presented at a ceremony Thursday at 11 a.m. at the new Comcast Cable studio across from Backyard Burgers on Court Street in Florence.
Kennedy, a 5-foot-9, 165-pound quarterback/defensive back, led the Tigers to a 12-1 record this season and the No. 2 ranking in Class 2A.
Kennedy finished the year with 1,428 passing yards, 777 rushing yards, 659 kickoff return yards, 383 punt return yards, and 28 total touchdowns. He also had 86 tackles, four interceptions and two sacks.
McCulloch, a 5-foot-11, 175-pound running back, helped the Golden Tigers reach a third straight Class 5A state championship game. He rushed for 1,057 yards and 12 touchdowns on 136 carries while also leading the team with 62 catches for 674 yards.
