SE Lauderdale tops Quitman, Wayne Co.

The game plan was simple for Southeast Lauderdale on Saturday just keep on winning.
The homestanding Lady Tigers took non-division wins over Quitman and Wayne County to move to 9-2 on the season going into a week that sees the Lady Tigers face a trio of Division 5-3A foes.
In the first game of the day Southeast scored three runs each in the fifth and sixth innings to take a 7-4 win over Quitman, while the Lady Tigers scored four times in the bottom of the first in the second game to defeat Wayne County 5-2.
The Lady Tigers play host to Forest at 7 p.m. Monday, before visiting defending MHSAA Class 3A champion West Lauderdale at 7 p.m. on Tuesday. SEL then visits Choctaw Central on Thursday.

The game with Wayne County did not start out impressively for the Lady Tigers.
Wayne County picked up two runs in the top of the first thanks to a single, double and a SEL error. Southeast bounced back in the bottom of the inning as the first four Lady Tigers to come to the plate scored.
Lucy Ruffin singled, then scored on a triple over the center fielder's head by Lindsey Graham. Heather Ward tripled down the right field line to score Graham for a 2-2.
Ward scored when Markita Ivy's groundball was misplayed. Three batters later Heather Harper singled in Ivy to make it 4-2. The only other run of the game was scored in the second thanks to an RBI single by Graham.
After the first inning, Wayne County only got one other runner as far as second base.
Harper, the winning pitcher for SEL, retired the last eight batters she faced and only allowed one of the last 13 Wayne County hitters to reach base.
Graham led Southeast at the plate with a triple and single, while Harper added two singles. Wayne County only had five hits in the game.

Quitman 4
Pinch-hitter Tiffany Roulier broke up a 4-4 tie in the bottom of the sixth with a two-run single for the Lady Tigers. She later scored on a hit by Graham.
Quitman, now 5-5, led 2-1 going into the bottom of the fifth inning before the Lady Tigers hit for three runs.
Ward put the winners up 3-2 with a two-run single and later scored on a hit by Ivy. Quitman scored twice in the top of the sixth to tie the game, before SEL recaptured the lead in the bottom of the sixth.
Eli Bowen led SEL with three hits, while Harper had two. Amanda Herring led QHS with a single and double. Jessica Creighton had two singles.
